The definition of Fear is to be afraid or feel anxious or apprehensive about a possible or probable situation or event; an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight).
Ok let’s all admit it together- many of our fears are silly. We harp and obsess over things that don’t even exist, and haven’t actually happened, then we talk ourselves out of accomplishment. That’s what it basically boils down to- right?
As I am writing this, there are still fears or “limiting beliefs” that I struggle with. I call it “The Great Wall Of Fear”. This “wall” represents all the many limiting beliefs and fears that I imagine to be true. I fear rejection, failure, and criticism at times. These fears can freeze me from taking action for days and weeks, sometimes months at a time. I have overcome each of these things and STILL revert back to my old limiting habits of invisible fears. Do you find yourself doing the same?
I am sharing this with you to hopefully help you identify with your own “Great Wall Of Fear”. We all have it. Recognizing it is half the battle, but we must also take action and break through the wall.
Here are some things that have helped me:
- Personal growth/development books- There are so many awesome books to choose from. Here are 2 that I recommend: “The Power Of Now” by Eckart Tolle, and “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson and Kenneth Blanchard.
- Uplifting Music- There are so many different songs with a positive message. Ever notice how you feel after listening to one of them? Pick out a favorite or two and play them before you set out to complete that task that you fear.
- Mentors/Friends/Family- Talk your mentor, or someone you look up to. They have a way of motivating you and holding you accountable.
- Set goals for each specific fear- Write down your goals with a time line of when you will accomplish them. Break larger goals into smaller ones. Take them one step at a time, and JUST DO IT! You will feel so much better with each one accomplished!
So now its your turn. What are some things you do to break through your “Great Wall Of Fear”?
If you found this post helpful, please share it with your friends on any of the social media your participate in, such as facebook, or twitter. I am very appreciative of all your support!
Wishing you the very best,

Thanks for the valuable information! Fear can be one of the biggest obstacles to success, once we do break down the walls and “Just Do It” we can do anything we put our mind to.

Hi Sherry,
I apologize if it took me a while sweetheart. I have been in & out of doctors appointment my daughter is due in 5 weeks. Anyway, I got to finally reading your awesome post Sherry. It was a lovely message to unwind down to after a lonnngggg day. Here are my thoughts: I thank you for sharing this wonderful post with all of us.
When you begin the journey of believing in yourself, trusting your inner voice, you will make your life truly inspiring and wonderful. And the choice is yours. Here are quick tips I follow when fear takes over me.
1.) Know your strength
2.) Look to past achievements
3.) Take Action
4.) Trust your instinct
5.) Resolve to keep yourself focus
6.) Find a mentor
7.) Have someone hold you accountable for your goals
8. ) Build Self-Confidence
I learned to not take things seriously. Take full deep breaths. Acknowledge the fear. And Go for it! Dive in anyway. Fear cannot stop you from acting.
AND REMEMBER that “anything worth doing well is worth doing poorly at first”
You have within you a reservoir of untapped talents and abilities you need and want to achieve anything in your life. The only limits you and I have are the limits we give ourselves. I believe if you want something bad enough and are willing to persist long enough, then NOTHING…I mean there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that can stop you from achieving it.
You just need to take that first step….

It’s really hard to overcome those fear that we all do have but we need to face and get over ourselves on it or we may stock into we are right now and we won’t be able cross the bridge. Thanks a lot for sharing this great post that you have here Sherry. It’s worth the read!

Hey Sherry,
I like the list that you have here to help drive away fear. I actually read a lot of personal development books and listen to positive songs. Some other things I do is affirmations in the morning and night, I think about a positive future through out the day, and believe it or not, meeting great people on social media sites. This is my first time on your blog and I look forward to your posts.
Take Care!

I just started doing affirmations myself. I have noticed a difference in my mood afterward. It sets the tone for the day. Thanks for your comment, and glad you enjoyed the post.

Sherry,
Great post F.E.A.R. False Evidence Appearing Real. You hit the nail on the head because there are times when fear will hold us back if we let it.
You have a great list of things to combat our fears, I would add especially for business a mastermind group that will help you when you need a push or some encouragement. My first time here great blog.
Thanks for sharing,
Roger

It is good to get rid of all fears. Fear is an emotion. Fear is different than caution. Caution comes from what you decide with your logical deductions.
